Headteachers Letter – 26th November 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

A fairly brief update this week, which nevertheless captures the great work underway this term as well as promoting some exciting events in the run up to Christmas.

We will be working hard as a staff team today and on Monday during our scheduled professional Development day – and looking at the weather outside as I write, we have chosen the right days for it!

Library and Literacy Newsletter

We are please to announce that our excellent Librarian Ms Francis and Mrs Rose our literacy lead have produced the first library newsletter. We are keen to encourage a love of reading throughout the school and to utilise the library as a key learning area for students in all year groups. Miss Francis and Mrs Rose are already underway with a number of successful projects – including (now Covid-19 restrictions have lifted) a return to the much-valued reading buddy scheme. This is led by Sixth form students and it has been wonderful to see students from different year groups working so effectively together.

The newsletter can be found HERE

Sixth Form Assault Course

Please see the website HERE for an excellent write up of the Sixth Form assault course written by one of our students, Lucy Smith, who took part in the day. This event followed a morning of work on preparing for university applications and demonstrates the great opportunities on offer in our sixth form.

A reminder for year 11 students that the deadline for applications to year 12 in September 2022 is Friday 7th January. Please contact the sixth form team if you need further information.

Christmas Celebrations!

We are delighted that our Christmas music concert is returning in 2021! This will take place on Wednesday 8th December in our main hall. This concert was greatly missed during the Covid restrictions and promises to be an inspiring and celebratory event!

Tickets can be bought from Mrs Vic Paltridge from Performing Arts and can be contacted on paltridgev@wollaston-school.net

Tickets are £5 for adults and £4 concession.

We look forward to a full hall and wonderful musical celebration, which will see us and truly in the festive spirt.

Music for Meg

On the 22nd January there is a musical concert at the Picturedrome in Northampton to celebrate the life of Megan Tofte who sadly passed away at the age of 21. Megan’s family are valued members of the Wollaston school community, with one member of the family enjoying life at Wollaston School in year 7. Mrs Hollis Brown is involved in the organisation of the concert, and playing live will be our very own Mrs Nixon as part of the Abba tribute duet “Honey Honey”.

The concert is to remember Megan and to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation in her name.
