Headteachers Letter – 7th October 2022

Good afternoon

It’s fair to say autumn has arrived this week and despite the wind and occasional shower we have been relatively lucky with the weather! Just a reminder about expectations for additional layers now it is getting a little colder and wetter. Students are permitted to wear coats outside of lessons, however hoodies and track tops are not permitted. We are also at that point in term when the pile of lost property seems to be increasing on a daily basis! Please do check your child’s uniform for missing or faded labels as, although we do our best to return lost items, this can only be achieved if there is some indication of the owner!

Notices and Updates

Careers & Destinations Support

It is pleasing to report that three local colleges have visited school in the last few weeks writes Mr Myers: Staff from Northampton College , Moulton College and The Bedford College Group have been in to speak with Year 11 students. The visitors have all expressed their gratitude for the way students have responded to their presentations and the quality of the questions that students have posed. All three local colleges are holding open events which have been publicised to Year 11 parents. Mr Myers is available every Thursday lunch time in the library for any queries that students may have.

Associate Deputy Headteacher, Mr Mills, also spoke this morning at the Year 11 assembly about our sixth form open evening (3rd November) and letters were given out to students to bring home. Should pupil post have gone awry please find a copy of the letter HERE and find the link to booking a space on EventBrite here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/433567330557

Clubs

Please also find below an updated list of clubs on offer at Wollaston School. Attendance at clubs is excellent and we have a number of clubs run by students for students. That being said, one of our themes for this year is students being culture creators and in the spirit of that should any students have any great ideas for additional clubs then they should see our Assistant Headteacher for Student Experience, Miss Ayres, to pitch their idea. Miss Ayres’ office can be found in the DT faculty.

Projekt Planck – German Exchange

We are looking forward to welcoming students from our German partner school (Max-Planck-Gymnasium, Bremen) to Wollaston next week. Mr Rockingham and the MFL team have arranged 2 trips for students along many of our own students from different year groups. The German students will also spend Wednesday immersing themselves in a normal Wollaston School day. A full update and report will be coming up in next week’s newsletter.

Best wishes
