Headteachers Letter – 8th July 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

Term Dates

A reminder that the school closes for the Summer Holidays at 3pm on Wednesday 20th July. The school will re-open for the 2022-23 academic year on Friday 2nd September. The 2022-2023 term date calendar can be found HERE on our website.

Year 6 Transitions

We had a wonderful two days of transition as we welcomed our Wollaston School 2022 cohort on site for our first official transition days with full cohorts since 2019! Students had a fun filled couple of days completing taster lessons, doing team building exercises, finding their way around the school site and doing some important preparatory work with their new form groups ready for September. Highlights were how well all students engaged with each other as a new community, we had many displays of kindness with no -one left alone during breaks and lunches and all students displaying excellent attitudes in class and during group activities!

Warm Weather

We are blessed with good weather at the moment and this it seems is likely to continue into next week. Therefore, can parents please where possible ensure that their child has access to some sun cream and a refillable water bottle. We will make available the sports hall and the main hall to students during lunchtimes if they wish to escape the heat and sit somewhere cool!

Student will also be informed via their form tutors if ties may be removed for days where we feel the weather may be in excess of seasonal averages.

Preparations for Next Year

Preparations for September are well under way and we welcomed not only Year 6 this week for their transition but also held induction days for staff joining the Wollaston team from September. Alongside this there is a huge amount of planning taking place to ensure that we get the year off to a flying start and make it a really successful year! With this in mind please keep a look out for a variety of reminders regarding uniform and what is permitted to be worn in school as well as updates regarding the timing of the school day and our mobile phone policy.

In addition to last week netball result report. We are pleased to announce the following additional scores. Our year 8 team narrowly lost against Huxlow: 12-11.

The following girls competed: Evie, Faye, Evie, Ellie, Ruby, Karolina, Angel, Imogen & Regan.

Our year 9 team won against Manor: 18-12. Congratulations on being the 2021/22 district champions!

The following students represented Wollaston: Isla, Libby, Lily, Freyja, Jess, Jasmine, Skye, Phoebe, Abigail and Aloise.

Exam Certificates

We have a large amount of exam certificates (GCSE & GCE) still unclaimed – some dating back almost 10 years and we would love as many of them as possible to get to their rightful owners!

If you therefore know of any past pupils that have not collected their certificates, please let them know that they may do so by visiting the school between 9am & 4pm, Monday – Friday. If they are not able to collect their certificates in person, past students can authorise somebody else (a sibling still at the school, parent or family friend) to collect them on their behalf. To do this, the past pupil will need to email phippss@wollaston-school.net with the name of the person who will be collecting the certificates.

NB: Certificates are valuable documents as they are the official record of exam results and proof of these are regularly required by potential employers. Requesting replacement certificates directly from the exam boards can prove costly as they are charged at a fee.
