HEADTEACHERS LETTER & COVID-19 UPDATE- 12th June 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

I would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the kind words and messages of support following yesterday’s tragic news. It is of course so terribly sad, but also so inspiring to learn of the respect and love that Mark Wade enjoyed from our students, staff and parents.

We would very much like to formalise these messages in a book of condolence for us to recognise Mark’s invaluable contribution at Wollaston School, and  to pass on to Mark’s family. In the current circumstances this is not possible to write in a shared physical form, but we would invite all members of the school community to send messages, photographs or memories to bookofcondolence@wollaston-school.net  Mark’s closest colleagues and friends in the Humanities faculty will curate these messages into a physical book and we will share this on the school website and pass this on to Mark’s family so that they can appreciate the depth of feeling from our school community.

Such is the admiration, love and respect for Mr Wade, that I know that some students are planning to organise a physical tribute at the school gates.  Of course we warmly welcome the school community paying their respects and want to facilitate this in the safest way possible.  I know that you will especially appreciate at this time, the vital importance of social distancing and the responsibility on us as a school to avoid encouraging any form of public gathering.

We would be extremely grateful that if you or your son or daughter do wish to visit the school site and lay flowers or post a message or photograph at the main school gates, that you do this outside of normal school hours and respectfully request also that this is only undertaken as an individual or as a family, avoiding scheduled or larger group gatherings.  If there are tributes placed at the school gates over the weekend, we will of course take photographs on Monday morning and post these on the school website and will facilitate this area as a tribute to Mark over the course of the next week, before passing these on to his family. Thank you so much for your co-operation in this matter and I am sure that we can find a way to pay tribute to Mark whilst ensuring that we maintain the vitally important social distancing in place at our school and in the wider community.

School Arrangements from Monday 15th June 2020

Monday 15th June sees the start of the wider re-opening of Wollaston School to students in Year 10 and Year 12. This is on a strict rota system and students may only attend on their designated day and at the designated time. All eligible families should have received a letter from the relevant head of year and please contact Mrs Walker in Year 10 walkera@wollaston-school.net or Mr Mills in Year 12 millst@wollaston-school.net if you have any questions.

In order to maintain social distancing and to maintain protective measures, a reminder that students will line up outside at the start of the day and classrooms will be as well ventilated as possible. Please do ensure that you son or daughter arrives with warm clothing if the weather requires it.  A link to full student guidance can be found again HERE

Thank you for your continued support of our school, particularly at this terribly difficult time.

Mr J Birkett
